Between Land and River Cruise with Ethical Jaguar Safaris
This is a Pantanal journey like no other. Discover the world’s largest wetland — one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth — on a 12-day expedition focused on wildlife and nature photography. This tour takes you beyond the classic routes into remote areas far away from mass tourism, designed for photographers seeking unique perspectives, incredible light, and authentic jaguar encounters. Non-photographers are equally welcome.
In a small group of 5 to a maximum of 8 participants, we explore the Pantanal both on land and water. A major highlight is a 4-day boat expedition deep into the wilderness, far from the Transpantaneira. From our fully equipped expedition vessel, we navigate remote rivers, forests, and open savannas.
We spend 3.5 days on jaguar safari in the Taiamã Ecological Reserve, one of the most pristine areas in the Pantanal with one of the highest jaguar densities in South America. Along the way, we encounter caimans, capybaras, macaws, toucans, and much more.
Guided by photographer and biologist Uwe Zimmermann and Pantanal Guide Sandro Heusinger, this journey offers exceptional wildlife encounters and outstanding photographic opportunities

Ethical Jaguar Safari
Jaguar safari has become something of a competitive sport in the Pantanal in recent years. In Porto Jofre, the epicenter of jaguar tourism, the density of boats has reached a point where a single animal is often surrounded by as many as 20 or 30 vessels at once. This not only diminishes the nature experience for guests — who frequently imagined it would be very different — but also has a real impact on the local ecosystem. Vegetation is destroyed, riverbanks are eroded by the bow waves of speedboats, and species such as the giant otter are driven away.
This trip is different. Drawing on many years of experience in the Pantanal, we have designed a boat expedition that takes us to a different, remote part of the Pantanal: the Taiamã Nature Reserve. Not only does this area have one of the highest jaguar densities in the entire Pantanal, but in all likelihood we will be the only ones present when observing the animals. This allows us to watch and photograph them ethically, respectfully, and without disturbance, in their natural behavior. Because that is the mission and the purpose of this trip: authentic and deeply moving wildlife encounters and nature experiences that will stay with you forever.
Accompanied by a Professional Nature Photographer and a German Tour Guide
This photo tour is led by Uwe Zimmermann, a German nature photographer and filmmaker, and Sandro Heusinger, a German guide who lives in the Pantanal himself. Uwe Zimmermann's images and films have been recognised in multiple international awards and have been featured in local exhibitions. Based in his adopted home of Vancouver, Canada, he regularly offers photography workshops and takes great joy in sharing his passion for the beauty of nature through photography with others. He is always in search of the next compelling subject and the next photographic challenge.
The hands-on guidance while photographing out in the field — not in a seminar room, but outside where images are actually made — will transform your photography too. The topics we explore together are as varied as the situations themselves: How do I compose a powerful image? When is it worth looking more carefully? And how do I get the camera to capture what I see in front of me — whether through smart autofocus settings or full manual control? At every location, we take time with you personally to look at where your next photographic steps might lead — from image composition and camera settings to storytelling and creative techniques such as long exposure and ICM (intentional camera movement).
Our German tour guide is Sandro Heusinger. He emigrated to Brazil years ago and lives in Cáceres, a small town on the edge of the Pantanal. He has been leading tours into the most varied parts of the Pantanal for many years, knows the region inside out, and has an extraordinary depth of knowledge of the exotic local fauna and flora.
